Through Different Eyes: Non-Conformist Art in the Soviet Union

During Stalin's era, alternatives to the prescriptions of art were sternly repressed. But when Khrushchev announced a new day, artists began to explore alternative ways of expression.  Those alternatives became a stream of non-conformist art as well as several movements in official artist union circles.  These movements become the asis for another look at Soviet life.

As the coordinator of outreach education at the Museum of Russian Art, Carol Veldman Rudie uses her college teaching skills to research and to present background to Russian art and culture.  She has been the lead docent at TMORA since 2005 and developed its docent training program. As a special interest, she leads tours to Russia.  Her PhD work at the U of Mn includes a minor in Art History.  Sharing her love for the visual, performance and literary arts motivates her involvement with TMORA.
