Love Visually: Romance in the Soviet Context

If  the love of the state supersedes all other "loves", what becomes of "romance: between two individuals? This question was actively engaged at the beginning of the Soviet era; it ripples throughout the period; it forms one of the themes of Soviet art. Studying this theme opens up a window into the kind of thinking that structured the Soviet experiment.

As the coordinator of outreach education at the Museum of Russian Art, Carol Veldman Rudie uses her college teaching skills to research and to present background to Russian art and culture. She has been the lead docent at TMORA since 2005 and developed its docent training program. As a special interest, she leads tours to Russia.  Her PhD work at the U of Mn includes a minor in Art History.  Sharing her love for the visual, performance and literary arts motivates her involvement with TMORA.
